Seoul Quick Hits

Three whole days in the “Land of the Morning Calm”.

  • Eight Starbucks sightings. Lots of competition from other chains, some with names/logos that are similar to The Mermaid. Coffee is big here, mostly as an after-dinner hang.
  • Western brands: Dunkin’ Donuts, McDonalds, TGI Fridays, KFC, Bennigans, Cold Stone Creamery, Baskin Robbins,
  • The Gongs which sound at 4:30AM at Buddhist temples.
  • Clean clean city.
  • Fantastic Metro system and dirt cheap. Less than US$1 to get all over this vast city. Many stations are quite safe with “elevator doors”.
  • It was supposed to be the best weather of the year for Seoul. I didn’t see a bit of blue sky once. Very hazy.
  • Committed a true rookie travel mistake: left my laptop power cord in my Seoul hotel room in my rush to catch the airport shuttle bus.
