Entertainment in Seoul

(I recently returned from a little trip to Seoul and Taipei, some photos and thoughts here).

Now here’s my idea of entertainment!

Techno-Mart, Seoul, South Korea

Yes, floor after floor of the latest consumer technology goodies. That’s Techno-Mart in Seoul.

But the place did seem to be strangely empty of customers. I began to worry that perhaps the global financial crisis is affecting the shopping.

My first experience with “copy” products was in my first trip to Seoul 18 years ago. In the first floor of the Techno-Mart is a large shopping area for clothing, and the only fake logo stuff I saw was this display of University of Oregon hoodies.

The reason I suspect that they might be fakes is because one of the hoodies was in Univeristy of Washington colors!

Lotte World, Seoul, South Korea

Here’s another entertainment option. In the middle of downtown Seoul, a city of 11 million souls, there is an amusement park called Lotte World. OK, well there are other amusement parks in cities. What makes this one special is that it is covered, so even in the dead of the Korean winter, it’s remains open.

What’s under the roof is a collection of adventure rides, kid rides, a water ride, you name it. Under the floor of this ride area is a skating rink. It’s all connected to a shopping mall, hotel, food court and…

… a castle in a lake, connected by people movers!
