How business is conducted in Japan

Tokyo OpenSolaris User Group, originally uploaded by jimgris.

After two days packed with customer meetings, I attended a “Nomikai” or informal eating / drinking session with the new Tokyo Solaris Users Group (TSUG). Jim Grisanzio captured a lot of photos and as always, has them online really fast. (visit http://www.flickr.com/photos/jimgris/ Jim’s photo stream for more snaps of the evening).

Here I am chatting with Jim Hughes, a very nice guy from Sun Microsystems who was visiting from the US. Jim is a Sun Fellow and chief technologist there.

This is how business is conducted in Japan, with drinks and bar foods to lubricate the process, multiple toasts and lots of geek talk. Several guys pulled out their OpenSolaris laptops, formed an ad hoc wireless LAN and away they went!
